John Dillwyn Parish

December 10, 1962 ~ March 24, 2018 (age 55)

Suddenly but peacefully on Saturday March 24, 2018 at Georgetown Hospital after a courageous battle with melanoma.  John at the age of 55 was the beloved husband and soul mate of Shari Faulkenham, adoring and proud father of Evan and Klara Parish and Damon Riley, loving son of Jack and Shirley Parish and devoted brother of Michele Buist (Dean), Susan Ferguson (Mark) and Robert Parish (Vimalini).  Loyal son-in-law to June and John Gilchrist. John will also be fondly remembered by Maria Parish and his many nieces, nephews and cousins.

John was a pioneer in the field of fluvial geomorphology – studying rivers and rivers processes, and how they influence the lands around them. He proudly founded PARISH Geomorphic Ltd. in 1997, was instrumental in the development of policies and implementation guidelines for managing watersheds in Southern Ontario, and a champion for natural river restoration across Canada. His contribution to Conservation and his field of science will leave a long-lasting legacy that will not soon be forgotten.

A celebration of John’s life will be held on Friday March 30, 2018 at The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #442, 12 Dundas Street, East, Erin from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. with special words of remembrance at 2 p.m.  Donations in John’s memory can be made to The Odette Cancer Centre through the Sunnybrook Foundation https://donate.sunnybrook.ca/tribute.  Cards will be available at the celebration of life on Friday or you may send the family a condolence at www.butcherfamilyfuneralhome.ca
